Summer Low Brass Ensemble: now in its 6th year under the direction of Mark Thiele, is a special opportunity for trombone, euphonium and tuba players (yep, the low brass!). Sessions are at McLean High School, Tuesdays, 7-9 pm, June 19, 2012 – July 24, 2012. The camp culminates with a performance on the Vienna Town Green on Sunday, July 29, late afternoon. Cost is $150. Bar Harbor Brass Week: Dates are June 24-30, 2012 for this intensive educational and performance experience for select college and high school brass musicians. Daily activities include rehearsals, coaching, master classes, and private lessons–all led by a prestigious faculty of many of the finest brass musicians and educators in the country. UVA Cavalier Marching Band Camp: Not a lot of details yet on this camp, but when there are you’ll find them at http://www.virginia.edu/marchingband/. Dates are July 11-14 and there are sessions for drum major, student leadership/musicianship, drumline, color guard, and twirlers. Cost is $295.
JMU Summer Band Camp: Dates are July 10-14 for “rising high school students interested in an exciting and memorable concert band, marching band, drum major, color guard, or drumline summer experience.” Cost: $345. Details at http://www.jmu.edu/music/summerprograms/summerbandcamp12.html
George N. Parks Drum Major Academy (DMA): July 24-27 at West Chester University, West Chester Pennsylvania. DMA is for any band member who wishes to improve and develop their leadership, communication, conducting and teaching skills in order to become a stronger asset to their band program. Separate tracks for Drum Majors, Colorguard, Woodwinds, Brass, and Percussion. Cost: $485. Learn more here: http://www.drummajor.org/
Summer Jazz and Recording Workshop for rising 7th to 12th graders: June 24-July 1. Cost info is not available yet. Vaughn Ambrose will direct this week-long camp, with boarding or day options, on the Episcopal High School campus. The camp will feature master classes and individual lessons, daily jam sessions, and concerts by faculty and guest artists, as well as instruction in music theory and recording technology.
