Student Competitions sponsored by various groups in the area (let me know if you hear of others)
- 2013 Ross-Roberts Competition for High School Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion Players : Sponsored by the Friday Morning Music Club. Winners receive cash awards and one year’s free membership in the Club and appear in the FMMC student recital series. Winners of Honorable Mentions also receive a year’s free membership.
- The Eighth Annual U.S. Army Orchestra Young Artist Competition for Washington D.C. area high school musicians: This year applications and CD recordings are due February 8, 2013. All applicants will receive instructional comments from the fine musicians of the U.S. Army Band, “Pershing’s Own”. Honorable Mentions and Finalists will be invited to perform alongside with the U.S. Army Orchestra on the concert featuring the competition winner. Our winner will appear as the featured soloist on Friday, May 17, 7:30 pm at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center on the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College.
